About the event
Johann Sebastian Bach, the Thomaskantor, has never dealt with any other work as intensively over such a long period of time as with his St John Passion(s). At least four performances of the work in different versions are documented in Leipzig.
The second version was first performed on March 30, 1725 in the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. Exactly 300 years later, this version can now be heard in the Vienna Hofburg Chapel, probably with the same line-up of singers with eight great soloists who perform both the arias and all the choirs intensively.
